Introduction & Working Process

This was a project working with a Taiwanese local T-shirt customize service. The owner of the business assigned this project for the purpose of enhancing the user experience of mobile users. The main requirements were redesigning the mobile customization function and doing the RWD design of the cart and cashier pages. In 1  month, I communicate with RD, designer, marketing person, and the business owner to get the design on board.

Instead of the content listed in the contract, I also provided several recommendations on the UX issues I discovered while doing competitor analysis and product usability evaluation to the RD and the designer. This project includes several interviews, flow (sitemap) design, wireframing, and a hifi-prototype following the user journey of the persona we generated together in the persona workshop I held for this project.

The design process and Results:

Merging the expectations and business goals that the business owner wanted to pursue and the information I grabbed from the customer service agent, we built several personas. We later did another workshop to make sure that we're all on the same track on picking up the VIP customers and the user journey of these people. After knowing our VIP users are housewives who wanted to print a memorable T-shirt for kids or for pets, I studied customers' behaviors and found that these people are mostly experts in mobile photo editing apps. Since what we want is similar in function to those apps, we decided to take advantage of the designs of those apps.

I sketched the wireframe and showed it to the designer. We were both agree on it. We talked to the RD and made several user tests to make sure that the logic of the wireframe did not go wrong. After all of these steps, I created the prototype and sitemap so that the RD can work on it.

We also made some redesigns on the carts and the cashier pages. The idea of these designs is to provide modern experience and eliminate the efforts the users have to make while entering information. This can also prevent user mistakes which would lead to delivery issues.

Summary:

The client accepted the design happily and highly commented on the design. The RD said he could develop, test, and publish this version in 6 months. That was what I heard on the end of May 2020. This was an interesting experience cooperated with a  designer who works in the client's company and willing to learn UX methods. I was glad that we can help each other with skill development and design insight. This is one of the benefits of being a freelancer, isn't it?
