On Wednesday, March 27, 2019, an event was held at SVA Theatre (333 West 23rd Street) People works in Gaming Industries talked about their stories and the decisions they made which brought them into this interesting, creative industries.

The speakers are came from different areas, few of them are holding a “game-making profession” before stepped in the industry. “I came from New York wishing to be a Broadway actress, ” the host said, “and ended up exactly what most of people like me did.” She became an expert after started get in touch with other people in the industry.

“You might ask, if you really want to make a game, why not go West?” A computer engineer joked, “There are many individual studios in New York.” Majored in computer science, and might be the most “standard” game-maker in speakers, he explained his own route becoming a game developer. Just as others, he pointed out the most valuable resources is relationship. Knowing people gave them chances to learn new skills and jobs.

Developing a game need to combine various of skills. A professional coding team couldn’t create an impressing, pleasing game experience without illustrators, storytellers, and musicians. Marketing is also important, especially for individual studios. Gaming communities put passionate people together and make it possible for people to help each other and create highly-skilled works.

The experience meeting people is an unique experience of mine. It’s exciting to see different people communicate and cooperate with each others. It is also nice to know there are people changed their career in later life. It somehow taught me a lesson that I should be more open to everything and every areas.
